With the UMS you can use the iFP as a USB drive - no special software is required. Main disadvantage of the UMS is that it prevents you from recording at maximum quality, but the lower quality may not bother you.
You can switch back and forth between UMS and Music Manager firmware, but each time you switch, all your music is erased.
If you are a Total Commander user, you can use the same software interface to access both firmwares (requires a iFP extension for the MM firmware).
