I'm getting this exact same problem (I accidentally delected EVERYTHING on my iriver when I was cleaning it out, kicking myself!), and I downloaded the file from shamrockman and tried that but I'm still getting the boot failure. shamrockman, was that the 1.13 firmware version? I can't exactly use a newer system file since because of the boot failure screen I can't opt for my iriver pmp-120 to upgrade to it.
time to contact iriver services? =|
