Just bought a PMP-120 off of Ebay for an unbelieveable deal. I've been waiting for the next gen video player to be released so as soon as I saw this one, I jumped on it.

My initial impressions are reasonably positive. The video playback is good and while the player will play back all advertised formats, it seems to balk at anything with VBR audio (Which is about, well, everything) and tell you it's an "incompatible format" but it will play it. I've noticed tho that the playback seems to be a bit jerky.

All is not lost, though. IRiver supplies you with a utility to convert the media files into a PMP-120 format. It's pretty much a no-frills video converter. Pick the filename, set the output option quality and click go. Once files have been run through this utility, the playback is much smoother. The utility also seems to have a problem converting mpg files extracted from ReplayTV units, which is kind of a bummer but I'm sure there is a workaround I haven't discovered yet.

All in all, Im happy with the unit so far. I want to get a little more time with it and see how thw rest of the features work but so far Im happy with my purchase.
