Oh my, what a bad typo! Naturally i didn't try to transfer an .EXE, i was refering to the .HEX file.
I was in a hurry and had to leave home for a while so I thought I would just write a quick post and see if someone answers , so that typo snuck in and I didn't explain what I did fully.
So much for number 1). For the other questions: yes, yes, yes and yes.
Anyway, I was writing because I did precisely what you instructed, and that it doesn't work is precisely what confuses me. I might add that I'm located in Germany, but my player should just be like the other EU versions I guess. On shutdown the player says 'T-30MTP1G/EU', on the back is a sticker reading 'T30MX 1G'.
Further clarification: I tried about ten times transfering the .hex file to the player. Each time I get one of two results: Either the transfer is way too fast imho (about 1 second), or the transfer stops in the middle. As I posted before the player does not upgrade the firmware after disconnection from the pc, and when I browse the player I find a .hex file which does not have a name, its just showing a file called '.HEX'.

EDIT: I found another mistake in my first post: I didn't use Monkey's Audio but, as suggested by you, Mediamonkey. Monkey's Audio is for something different.
