(and you may have also read my thread about the G10 a while ago..)

So, Let's start off with the G10...

New G10 handheld plays games with two D pads, 4-inch 800x600 screen, wireless capabilities.

Tapwave's Zodiac, Tiger's Gizmondo, and Nokia's N-Gage have all recently tried to break into the lucrative portable-gaming sector. However, with little brand recognition and lukewarm software support, the first system has gone the way of Betamax--and the futures of the others are uncertain. While these handhelds were part of the new wave of multimedia portable gaming devices, it was Sony's PSP that was the Big Kahuna.

But even Sony's "must-have" PSP plays second fiddle to Nintendo's two portables, the Game Boy Advance and the DS, which account for roughly 78 percent of the handheld market. With two handheld giants to contend with and history stacking the odds against new entries into the portable market, it would seem that Nintendo and Sony will be going tête-à-tête, at least for a while.

Enter iRiver. The Korean company best known for portable digital music players is reportedly unveiling the iRiver G10, its first dip into mobile gaming, at the Consumer Electronics Show taking place now in Las Vegas.

The unit will run on the Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system, have multiple storage options of 4GB or 8GB, and feature WiBro wireless Internet functionality. Its 800x600-pixel color display (the PSP's screen, by comparison, is a 480x272-pixel screen) and takes up much of the unit's face. The front slides up, revealing two D pads, and select, start, and on/off buttons.

More detailed facts...

Before I go on to the translation from iriver's official noticeboard for registered workers,

Please note that this is OFFICIAL but also note that I am a registered reviewer from irver,

currently in HQ, Korea and giving you information that you CAN'T find anywhere else...

So enjoy the information and as I said, I will keep you informed and answer any comments..

Good, Let's start..

The G10 will play the latest 3D games and I am going to talk about it first here..

There are BIG game companies currently developing games for the G10/V10 and one of them is Nexon,

a Korean Company, the biggest online game company in asia, holding about 50% of the market share!

It developed 1A, highly addictive games including Kartrider (picture above) and Baram which

"infected" the whole east-asian continent and there are currently 12 million player around the globe...

And I am glad to tell you that I was in the Agreement Signing Ceremony between Reigncom (company behind the iriver brand) and nexon (Asia's number 1 online game maker)

and agreed to port Kartrider and Baram to the G10!

First, official game contract made by reigncom and will of course continue till its release...Excellent.

BUT, and this is a BIG BUT, it isn't the only company and you might as well think (no fifa 2006 or GTA) that it is crap

But! you will see very big and famous title soon and iriver is making lots of "behind the scene" contracts,

Which will expand its game series even more...(than the PSP...lol)

So, as I said, don't be disappointed now, we habe got a LONG~ way to go till its release (Autum 2006)

And there will be BIG BIG COOL Titles..

Before I talk about even more of the G10,
I have got to introduce you G10's Girlfriend ( )

The V10, an updated version of the G10 for the US:

The V10 is iRiver's answer to the popular Sony PSP. It is a combination of portable Video game console and a PMP. The gamepad has a sliding form factor which hides the controls behind the display during storage. The 4 inch WVGA screen has a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels and can display approximately 260,000 colors. It also has a graphics accelerator chip for better graphics and smooth gameplay. The iRiver V10 runs on Windows CE.

Some facts not 100% sure is:

GPS Navigation? (YES! GPS!!!)

WiMax or Wi-Fi? (iriver is watching the growth of WiMax in the US and will decide what wireless tech it will have..)

Flash or HDD?

The G10, on the other hand, basically is a portable multimedia player that supports audio/video playback, image browsing, and voice recording. Futhermore, with WiBro capability, iRiver G10 may also browse web, read email and play streaming medias. Another exciting feature is that iRiver G10 comes with independent GPU, which makes it comparable to Sony PSP! iRiver V10 is actually the upgrade version of of iRiver G10. It may feature 8 - 16GB of NAND flash memory or a 30GB of 1″ / 1.8″ HDD. The company hopes to improve its resolution of 640 x 480 @ 30fps.

Both models are still under development (about 70% finished) and will be released
in a few months first in Korea.

V10 will have either a MASSIVE 16GB Flash memory OR a EVEN MORE MASSIVE 30GBHDD!!!

The V10 is intended to be a WiMax media player, but if time schedules are getting too tight iRiver might drop the sliding keypad-thingy, so that the device might end up looking like an oversized U10.

iRiver's neat-looking iRiver V10 will be released in the USA, though the exact launch date is unknown. The V10 sports a sliding keypad, so you can keep it in your pocket after playing games/video on it.

Video Streaming will be possible thanks to its WiBro capanility allowing users to have CONSTANT internet access even at speeds of 30km/h up to 30Mbps!!!
The same is true for Audio streaming, e-mail,instand messaging and browsing the net...

It slides and it looks hella cool…(in my opinion at least) and is very comfortable to handle and I had the oppotunity to sort of "touch" a prototype (dated back to 2005 october) for 6min.
and it was simply awesome...

iRiver has given me a glimpse of two new products that are still under development...
The G10 is a portable media player that offers video, photos, music and radio but can also browse the Web, check email and stream or download content.

The G10's hottest features are its integrated graphics chip and mobile network content abilities. It will support wireless broadband services using forthcoming WiMax technology to maintain an always-on connection to the Internet, video streams and games to download. iRiver wouldn't confirm who would be supplying the graphics chip to power the games but was clear that it isn't intending to take on the likes of Sony's PSP.

iRiver is planning to roll out the G10 in Korea later this year to work with Korea Telecom's WiMax-like WiBro service which incredibly, will offer a constant 30Mbps wireless broadband connection. iRiver is watching the development of infrastructure in the US before it announces any plans to launch locally.

The company's upcoming V10 media player on the other hand, which is essentially a scaled up G10, should be available in the US in some shape or form later this year.

iRiver is still deciding on most of the final specs: the V10 could ship with high density flash memory (for 8-16GB capacities) or a hard disk (for 30GB capacities using a 1.8-inch or 1-inch drives).

The company would like to offer the product in the US as a WiMax media player but if such services aren't available in time, the company may drop the V10's sliding keypad and position it as more of a larger version of its existing U10 device.

iRiver is also looking to increase the V10's chip horsepower to allow it to playback 640x480 video at 30 frames per second. Other possibilities for the V10 include GPS and digital free to air TV functionality (which is very likely of course...)

They both look pretty cute thanks in part to its Apple-esque design and a clever slide-out control panel...

UPDATE (10/02/2006): Reigncom Selects Next-Gen Consoles!

RisingStars Growth Fund investee, Next Device, provider of the most compelling dynamic user interface solutions for mobile devices, has announced that it has been selected by Reigncom, world-leading portable multimedia device vendor and owner of the iRiver brand, for the pioneering iRiver G10, Portable Online Gaming Device & Multimedia Player.

iRiver G10 will be the world’s first gaming device to offer high-speed always-on connectivity when it launches on South Korea’s pioneering WiBro(Mobile WiMax) network later this year.

Next Device’s advanced 3D UI technology blurs the boundary between application and content, and offers seamless browsing of on-and off-device resources. These capabilities will enable the iRiver G10 to deliver an engaging, connected experience that surpasses anything available on the market today.

Under the iRiver brand, Reigncom has built a reputation for delivering high quality portable entertainment devices that combine ease of use with innovative design.

Having entered the market with the iRiver brand in 2001, Reigncom has grown to be the No.1 business in the Korean MP3 player market with the market share of 50%, in addition to having secured a 9.6% share in the global flash memory-based MP3 player market in 2004. (Source: IDC)

iRiver is aggressively entering the WiBro market by announcing that it would develop a portable device that could connect to WiBro networks to download multimedia content including online games.

Joon Yang, CEO of Reigncom, commented, "We assessed all the available solutions on the market and found that only Next Device was capable of providing the next generation user experience that our landmark iRiver G10 device demands.”

“Next Device uses the iRiver G10’s 3D graphics hardware to the full and makes the most of its high-speed WiBro connectivity” he continued. “This will enable us to present consumers with the latest games, multimedia content, live news and offers in the most compelling way possible.”

Ben Hookway, CEO, and Geoff Kendall, CTO, are available to provide comment in Barcelona (or beforehand) on the role of user interfaces in content discovery, device and operator differentiation, and engendering customer loyalty.

The iRiver G10 WiBro is running a Windows OS, think of all the different applications that will readily and easily be available.

Therefore, HOMEBREW capability will be also one of its biggest selling points...

SNES!

NES!

Genesis/Megadrive!

Gameboy/Colour!

Gameboy Advance!

MAME!

Playstation 1!

N64!

Dreamcast!

etc...

Oh yes...TONS OF MILLIONS OF SUPERB games...

AND MILLIONS OF OTHER APPLICATIONS!!!

such as Mobile Firefox,Opera,Excel, Word,Radio,Online TV,Paint,Music Players...etc. (too many...i would die before i could even list them...)

And of course, the 4,8,16,30GB Memory gives you PLENTY of MASSIVE storage compared to PSP's over-priced ultra expensive Memory sticks...lousy 2GB costs 125 pounds...

FULL HOMEBREW SUPPORT. No firmware blocking like Sony...(sony is cruel...made lots of people brick their PSP when downgrading to 1.5...i will never trust sony anymore.. )

Encouraged Developers! - plenty of ports,games,applicat ions...etc.

A download service for users to download content from iriver's new site (which will be lauched with the G10/V10) such as games, musics, videos, ebooks...etc.

(commercial games,free games,demos,beta games,homebrew games,roms...etc.)

beam each others game...(wicked.. :evilmad

Or LIVE STREAMING of video, musicvideos,ow n MP3s,radio or Digital TV...thanks to WiBro...at superb quality (30mbps...)

It's a little gadget that’s been getting a lot of attention recently... iRiver, makers of the U10 and H10 portable media players, seem to shifting their attention from providing solid iPod alternatives to taking on Sony and their handheld game system, the PSP. With a beautiful looking 800 x 600 colour screen and a slide out game pad. And here’s the interesting thing… it will run Windows CE 5.0 and use iRiver’s Wi-Bro (Wireless Broadband) service to download games, along with music and movies.

GPS!!!!!!! Free to air digital TV!!!!!!

No way...unbelievable.. .

NO Expensive UMD Videos! Download free movie trailers (or watch them live via excellent 30meg streaming) and download full size movies within minutes (and also via PC!). The same goes for music.

UPDATE: A cheap 2GB version is also planned... (for those with tiny budgets...)

With an attractive 4-inch WVGA screen capable of displaying 260K colors, and a slick sliding-screen design for enhanced portability, it appears that iRiver is trying to appeal mainly to the "PSP crowd" of handheld gamers.

"It could become a significant part of your life" - iriver CEO, at the Agreement Ceremony
