I can hold out on RMA'ing the PMP and try to connect via serial port under two conditions:
1. Someone give me detailed directions on exactly how to do this and what I need to do
2. Whatever I do must be reversible or somehow removeable so that I can RMA afterwards.
If someone can promise me this much, my PMP is game. Astec, ShamrockMan, I will help under these conditions simply because the PMP is too expensive for me to just 'let go' in a 'noobish' move such as doing something that will COMPLETELY void my warranty beyond a doubt. Now THAT would be a noobish thing to do.
So if anyone can guide me through this, let me know and my PMP can serve as a temporary guinea pig.
