Serious problem with IFP-799

So, I bought an IFP-799 earlier this year. It worked perfect and I'm in love with it. I am not currently using the UMS drivers. I have the 1.30 firmware and 3.17 manager program.

Now about two months ago I decided to upgrade my selection of music, and to my surprise, I couldn't transfer any files to the player. It had lots of free space and even if I deleted some more I couldn't transfer files.
The transfer window popped up and said "transferring 1/1" and it didn't do anything else, I couldn't cancel the transfer, and it was going nowhere.
sidenote: everything else was working, the player was working perfect, I could format it, delete files and change the tuner settings with my manager program, so it was not that simple.

Then I tried every thing I could think of, and I tried a lot. I tried to reninstall the program a million times, I tried other versions and stuff, I tried to downgrade my firmware but I couldn't since the file transfer didn't work.
Then after a few hours and a little miracle I managed it to transfer a small file, then I tried a bigger one and a bigger one etc.. And then I could even move whole songs in it. I could fill my player (with some effort though).

Now about a month ago I wanted to change the playlist again, and for some reason my manager program's .exe file was gone, so I reinstalled it and the transfer problem is present again.

I tried everything again. Doesn't work. I would upgrade the firmware to another one or to UMS but I can't transfer files to it...

What do I do? I really really need to get this player to work.
I've not heard that anyone else had had this problem.

PS. my comp is using WinXP and USB 1. I was thinking that it might be the USB but then realized that it did work earlier and the USB works with other devices. I did buy an USB 2 card. But I can't install it to my comp because somehow the screwholes don't match, so I can't get it mounted.

A second question:

Why can't I put the volume higher than 20? Well I can but the music doesn't get any louder. It's annoying.
