Firstly, you may want to uninstall, and then re-install it. If the problem continues, you may want to go the way of UMS Firmware (there is a downside to this, namely only being able to record up to a maximum bitrate level of 96KBpS) ...
Secondly, if you look in your system tray, there should be an icon that allows you to safely disconnect the hardware ... if you take your mouse and slowly scroll over each icon whilst the player is connected, you will know which one it is
