My solution was a tad different, in that i bought an SD card reader from ebay for 1cent (shipping from HK was killer, though). i supplied 5 V to the SD Card reader through a 9V battery with a 7805 Voltage regulator in the middle. My problem now, is that once i plug it in (FW is 1.28K), it says "Plug In Please Wait..." and the DEVICE tab never shows up. I'm not sure what I've done wrong.
One thing is that i noticed my card's file system was FAT. i reformatted it to FAT32 and I still haven't had any luck. 
Are there any suggestions?

Did you supply power to the SD card reader ONLY?
I've heard people saying BOTH card reader AND iRiver need power, thats why I supplied power in the middle of the thing...
Maybe thats what's going on..
BTW, I opened my H300 and did the soldering mod!
