Insert actually places the song or folder/directory into a playlist which can be saved. Queue places the song or folder/directory into a queue that cannot be saved, it's a sort of dynamic playlist that can be manipulated to your liking on the fly without being saved.
Additionally in the playlist menu you can move songs around, delete, etc....
