It is probably because we have a better power saving code than the stock Archos firmware. The Archos players don't have a hard disk spin bug, that's an iRiver issue.

The ticking is hardware related to a bad batch. The players HAVE to get sent back to be 'tweaked' to get rid of the ticking. A firmware update does not fix it.
