The thing is this: the audio playback is not the easiest thing to do, since it involves some heavy hacking on audio codecs (something Rockbox never did before, since the Archos players have a hardware MP3 codec) and also quite substantial changes in the internal workings of Rockbox (for the same reasons).
Also, the games-and-gimmicks stuff is not developed by the same people as the "core" stuff. And they are entitled to do whatever they want, IMHO.

Regarding my real-life problem that Tang mentioned, it isn't exactly a new one. My wife is unable to walk since the birth of our second child, 2.5 years ago. Since then, she's in constant pain and is on heavy drugs to cope. That leaves me less time for development than the other guys, I suppose, since I have to take care of her as well as the kids. Now you know.
