Here's what's in the manual regarding Camera/Flash Card support.
In the box is a leaflet with compatible devices, with the following text:
Camera's
Nikon coolpix 2100,2200,3100,3200, 4300,4500,SQ etc
Olympus mju 25,30,400,410 / X-250 / E-1 etc
C-3020z, 4000z, 5050z, 700uz, 730uz etc.
Fujifilm Finepix S5000 etc.
Pentax Optio-550 etc.
Some digital camera of Canon, Kodak, Samsung are not supported because they require device drivers.
USB Flash drive manufacturer (Model):
P&C N-Tech (FDISK V2) / Reanet (USB 2.0 Flash Drive) Sarotech (FLex Drive) / Unicom (Pocki Drtive) Sitecsoft (Data Tank) / SKC (EZ-stick) Musetel (Selfdisk), (USB 2.0 Flash Drave), and....

It's recomended that when interfacing with an external Hard Drive the external hard drive is powered by it's own AC adapter
Further: USB devices must support Universal Mass Storage (aka. UMS) functionality, please see your device manufacturer to determine if this mode is supported.
Edit: and for those wondering, and Flame Grilled will correct me if i'm wrong, there is no end all USB Host Controller that will support every device out there for those of you saying "why didn't iRiver use a different controller to support every camera/flash card".
